Learn from the LIBS & LA-ICP-MS experts!
Eurofins EAG Materials Science, in association with Applied Spectra, are pleased to invite you to our Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy and Laser Ablation ICP-MS Active Learning Workshop, in Syracuse, NY.
When: September 26 - 27, 2019
Where: EAG Laboratories, 103 Commerce Boulevard, Liverpool, NY 13088 USA
Laser micro-sampling is one of the most versatile and reliable chemical analysis tools available today. Recent technological advances in laser-ablation ICP-MS and laser induced breakdown spectroscopy have set these techniques apart in the world of analytical chemistry, as they are unique in that they can provide trace elemental distribution mapping and bulk quantification of any element >100 ppb present in any solid material. In particular, these techniques can carry out rapid 3D mapping and in-direct structural/compositional analysis of atmosphere-sensitive materials, and the distribution of elements such as lithium, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen.
Join experts from EAG and Applied Spectra to learn more about how these novel techniques and their recent advances can be used to help solve your complex analytical problems!
The workshop will take place over a day and a half, and will include technical seminars from leading experts, as well as group demonstration sessions using our state-of-the-art LIBS and LA-ICP-MS instruments.
We will also offer one-on-one demo testing sessions with an expert for your unique samples/materials. Please indicate during registration if you are interested in having your samples tested. A workshop organizer will contact you with samples specifications. Only pre-agreed upon samples will be analyzed.
Registration is first-come-first-serve, and spaces are limited. Confirmation of your attendance will be sent to you by email from the workshop organizers, along with a link to accommodation booking.
Please note, due to security and safety constraints, confirmation of your attendance by the workshop organizers is mandatory. Registrants will also be required to show ID upon arrival at the event.
Jhanis Gonzalez, Ph.D., Director of Applications and Laboratory Operations at Applied Spectra, has researched the chemical analysis of solid samples with laser induced breakdown spectroscopy and fundamental ablation mechanisms for close to 10 years. Dr. Gonzales was a Visiting Scientist, Chemist Postdoctoral Fellow, and a Project Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories Dr. Gonzalez’s research, focused on understanding the mechanisms of laser-material interaction through the use of both LIBS and LA-ICP-MS, has helped Applied Spectra remain on the cutting edge of laser chemical analysis. He received his B.S. in Chemistry and his Ph.D. in Area-Physics Chemistry from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas.
Jong Yoo, Ph.D. is the President and CEO of Applied Spectra, Inc. Dr. Yoo is in charge of commercializing developed laser ablation-based analytical technologies for various industries. Some of the industries targeted include: geochemistry, semiconductor equipment, medical, storage and nanotechnology. Dr. Yoo worked as a Senior Process Engineer for Applied Materials in Santa Clara, CA and also served as a Visiting Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has over 35 technical publications in journals including the Journal of Applied Physics , Applied Physics Letters, and Analytical Chemistry. He also currently holds four patents. Dr. Yoo received his B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and his M.S. from Stanford University, all in Mechanical Engineering.
Carys Cook (nee Falco), Ph.D., is the Laser Ablation Group Manager and an Application Scientist at Eurofins EAG Materials Science where she solves complex analytical problems for her customers. She has an academic background in geochemistry, and joined Eurofins EAG in August 2017, after completing a two year post-doctoral research position in ultra-trace radiogenic isotope analysis at the University of Florida. She also sailed as a marine geologist on a research expedition to West Antarctica. Her research publications have been cited in over 20 different Science and Nature papers, and has been interviewed by Time, Science Magazine and National Geographic for her research on climate change. She received her M.S. from Cardiff University in Wales, and her Ph.D. from Imperial College London, sponsored by the prestigious Grantham Institute for Climate Change.
